Log in to reviewThe headdress and the staff set the Monkey King apart immediately. This is a sculpt with more moving parts than most, and the pose runs the staff diagonally across the body, which breaks up the usual upright Pop! silhouette. Warm yellows and reds dominate, with darker accents around the face.
He carries 115 in the sequence, from the Journey to the West thread of Pop Asia. The character detail is the reason the piece exists, and there is no gimmick beyond a well-observed take on a very recognisable design.
If you collect the line by story rather than by number, it belongs beside the other Journey figures, and the thread only works as a group. Both the sculpt and the palette are specific enough that slotting him in beside unrelated pieces would look like a mistake.
