This release is the Futura treatment: a black-and-white take on the droid rather than the full-color version, as the title sets out. That framing changes what the piece is — a designer reading of a familiar shape rather than a straight portrait figure.
The early thirties are among the most collected entries in the line, so a variant sitting in that range has two things going for it: the number and the treatment. If you already own a plain R2-D2, this is the version that answers it, and if you do not, it is arguably the more interesting of the two to start with.
